Celebrating 125 years of the birth of the acclaimed academician Simon Kaukhchishvili, the Apostolic Nuncio, H.E. Msgr. José A. Bettencourt met with the current President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Dr. Giorgi Kvesitadze. Dr. Kvesitadze is President of the prestigious institution since he was elected in 2013. The Georgian National Academy of Sciences builds on foundational origins in 1941 and a long tradition of renowned academicians drawn from various disciplines. The egregious Georgian institution supports and coordinates scientific research in Georgia and develops relationships with the Academics of foreign countries and other scientific centers from around the world.
The Apostolic Nuncio, Msgr. Bettencourt and Dr. Kvesitadze discussed the Georgian Academy of Sciences’ engagement in uniting Georgian scientists and establishing research with a number of institutions and scientific centers. The Georgian National Academy of Sciences holds sittings to elaborate on timely themes pertinent to the Nation and academic progress in areas that are very dear to the Apostolic Nuncio to Georgia.
The Apostolic Nuncio, Msgr. Bettencourt encouraged exchanges between the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences in the Vatican, founded in 1603 with a number of its members being Nobel laureates from various parts of the world. Collaboration between the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences in the Vatican would be mutually enriching.
In celebrating the renowned Catholic academician Simon Kaukhchishvili (1895 -1981), a great historian and philologist, we celebrate all Georgians who originate from different religious traditions and regions of Georgia and who dedicated their lives to academic excellence and building a stronger and better nation.
